Yves BRAYER (1907-1990) "The interior of the Mosque in Istanbul Important Gouache on paper signed, located and dated 1933 72 x 85 cm #lot visible and to be removed at the study This rare large-format youthful work, done three years after the artist won the Grand Prix de Rome, is perfectly in keeping with the realism movement of the interwar period. In our opinion, this is his most prolific and interesting period in the history of art. It is also a period during which Yves BRAYER travels a lot, soaking up other cultural visions: Spain in 1927, Morocco, England, Italy, Turkey. The BRAYER Museum has in its collections a large painting on the same theme, also done during this stay in Istanbul, and has in its archives a photograph of our work. Various museums, including the Musée Municipal d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, have in their collections some of these rare works from the 1930s, so sought after by the artist.
