Standing Priest - Lot 87
Standing Priest This elegant figure has an imposing headdress that accentuates the ritual deformation of the skull, one of the aesthetic canons of the Chorrera culture. Its two-part decoration plays on the relief and is distinguished by a beautiful shiny red slip that is also found on the body. It emphasizes the chest and the hips. This colour and the fine engravings that embellish the whole in a symmetrical way, reveal the filiation with the previous Mahalla culture. The arms and legs are cream-coloured, as is the face. The face is imbued with serenity with closed eyes, a fine nose and a mouth with closed lips. These traditionally asexual figures, presented as Venus by their generous forms, can sometimes represent men, as here. Brown terracotta with engraved red slip. Traces of roots, limestone and burns.
