Rare guitare romantique de Johann Georg Stauffer... - Lot 6 - Castor Hara
Rare romantic guitar by Johann Georg STAUFFER (1778-1853), c. 1818 Vienna. Scale length: 632 mm Nut width: 42mm Flamed maple body, soundboard in spruce, floral decoration on the soundboard Tuning machines. Fingerboard/Bridge/binding: stained wood (walnut?) This model is very much inspired by the Napolitean guitars of Gio Battista and Gennaro FABRICATORE or Donatus FILANO, that is to say, the first 6 string guitars. This guitar is among the first models to have a headstock outfitted with tuning machines. This “6 in line” and not 2 x 3 tuning machine system would become one of the characteristics of the Vienna school, whose aesthetic would be reused more than a century later by no other than Leo FENDER and his Stratocaster!
